Create an article

From Overclocking Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

There are lots of reasons to create your own article. My favorite is because its actually a lot of fun! Here are the basic instructions.

Research

Ok, this part is REALLY EASY! Just do a search to see if the information is already here somewhere. A lot of times its contained in another article. If you think it should be a separate article then go ahead!

Plan

This part seems a little unnecessary, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

The first step is to have an idea of what you want to add to the OverclockingWiki. There are lots of things that need added, here's a couple:

If you have the idea for an article that will fit any of these then by all means, keep reading and then go create an article!

Article Title

The first thing any good article needs is a proper title. This can be as simple as the name of a product or company, like these: Core_2_Duo, Logitech diNovo Edge or AMD. All the names are descriptive of what you will find on the page.

Once you have decided on the right title there are a couple of ways you can create the article. Here's the easiest.

Example of 'Search Results' page. This is not a real link.
  1. On any page, use the 'search' bar on the left side and type in the exact article title you want. Include any capitalization or spacing needed, but please, no punctuation.
  2. Once you have typed in the exact article title click on the 'Go' link just below the search field. This will take you to the 'Search Results' page. If you are taken to an article instead you have entered the name of an article that already exists. If your new article already exists then you didn't research! Or maybe your browser 'auto-filled' something that you didn't want. Try again.
  3. If you are taken to the 'Search Results' page then you will see a Screen that looks like the picture on the right.
  4. Verify that the article title is what you wanted and then click the red 'create this page' link.
  5. Now you are at your new page! You can immediately start typing in the text of the article, linking to other articles and pictures and applying basic formating. If you are using a browser that is capable of it, you will see small buttons that allow you to apply basic formatting and link to media files. Use these! If you want to get to the more advanced formatting you'll want to check out this table of formatting commands.
  6. Notes:
    1. We highly recommend you use a browser with a built in spell checking system, like Firefox.
    2. As you are working on your article you will no doubt find related information on the OverclockingWiki. Please, link to these other articles so your readers will be able to get any explanations they might need from related pages.
    3. Please, consider if your article might fit one of our categories. If so, please link to them!

Thank You
